A customer requested we develop an improved silicate gel to use in conformance control. The problem with these gels was the requirement to pump the two different fluids in alternating stages since the two reacted rapidly to form brittle, pasty gels. A discovery was made using different initiators, a linear polymer and other stabilizing components with the sodium silicate that resulted in a time delayed gel possessing ringing elasticity and three to ten times more gel strength that the chromium-polymer gels.
The United States has more oil and gas wells than any other country. As of December 31,there were more than half a million producing oil wells in the United States. That is more than three times the combined total for the next three leaders: China, Canada, and Russia.

Washington, DC - New technologies that help small, independent oil and natural gas operators contribute to domestic energy production while improving environmental protection have resulted from U. More thanstripper natural gas wells produce over 2 trillion standard cubic feet of natural gas annually, or 19 percent of the total U. In addition, every dollar of stripper oil and natural gas production generates roughly one dollar of economic activity, and nearly 10 jobs are dependent upon every one million dollars of stripper well oil and natural gas produced.

CNN -- Hundreds of thousands of small oil wells in the United Sates, called "stripper wells," are being touted as part of the solution to dependency on foreign oil. These wells are scattered throughout the country. Stripper wells are marginal, low-volume wells that produce less than 10 barrels of oil per day.

Six new technologies developed to boost oil and gas production from stripper wells have been commercialized or are near commercialization, reported the Stripper Well Consortium, Washington, DC. The consortium is an industry-directed group whose research, development, and demonstration efforts are funded in part by the US Department of Energy. The system operates automatically using an on-tool, pressure-activated valve.
Under a research grant from the Stripper Well ConsortiumTaylor University conducted research into the development of a low-cost well logging tool. One component of the tool was the development of a Geiger tube experiment to measure background radiation in the well bore. The prototype is shown below, and consisted of multiple Geiger tubes centerhigh voltage bias electronics right side and an MSP microcontroller for data acquisition and communication left side.
